Poster presentation!

I really enjoyed the other poster presentations, the technology presented on Monday and Friday were very innovative and different. My presentation was on Google Wave, I thought it would give people a better use of the internet in a more quick and concise way. I felt that something like Google Wave could make e-mail obsolete with all the benefits it comes with and the live interactivity. I went through a tutorial with the people who looked at my poster and they seemed very interested in it. What I thought was really cool was how Google plans on working with other technologies such as wikis to end some problems like editing wars.

Something my mom would like...

Technology can be anywhere, even in a measuring cup. A digital measuring cup that my mom might find use for, who says this stuff is just for kids. The cup makes sure you get the exact measurements with it's little screen on the side that tells you exactly how full it is. No more bending to counter length to make sure you got it right, this thing takes cooking to a whole new level, I like it and my mom will, too!

Comfort doesn't have to cramp your style!

Comfort definitely doesn't have to cramp your style, unless crocs are your thing. This awesome new chair is one popular sciences more interesting gadgets this year. The steel case cobi, is an awesome chair engineered for your behind and your back, too! "This chair supports both pristine posture and fidgety contortions. The back, made of flexible glass-reinforced nylon bars, conforms to your shape even if you sit side-saddle. The rubbery top bends if you hang your arm over it" And not to mention it looks pretty cool, too! http://www.popsci.com/gear-amp-gadgets/gallery/2009-09/megagoods-2009

Save our music on the guitar!

Here's an easier way of not forgetting the awesome songs that you come up with, Ovation Idea guitar! Talk about innovative, imagine the time you'll save from not having to stop every five seconds to record what you just came up with, this guitar will do it for ya!!! It's got a built in Mp3 recorder and I think it looks pretty sweet! I would definitely get myself one of these if I knew how to play the guitar, unfortunately even if I did.... I have no money to buy it, but I think it's a big step in the music industry's technology, I do hope they can come up with more awesome gadgets like this! Truly, I am impressed!

Keep playing video games, keep exercising!

So with the increase in popularity of games such as dance dance revolution, kids are staying in, but at least they are still moving. I like to play rock band a whole lot, and although I do lay around on the couch, I think all we need is the right combination of active video games to get my moving. Tiger Electronics came up with this ting called U-dance it's a little more awesome than your average DDR set, no mat involved...Huzzah! It senses motion, which is pretty badass and uses movement waves to track what your doing, basically taking what the wii has been doing to the next level, if it were a lot cheaper($80) I would be a lot more likely to get it! :) but you can check it out here: http://www.popsci.com/gear-amp-gadgets/gallery/2009-09/megagoods-2009

Artificial intelligence, another one bites the butt! :P

Remember the whiny child in AI, he got on my nerves because he thought he was real, do you think technology will reach that point where robots think they are human? Hopefully, we'll be smart enough to put a stop to that. MIT is rebuilding artificial intelligence from the ground up according to a recent article in popular science. http://www.popsci.com/category/tags/robots
I think to me it's all really going to depend on the programming, I think with movies we get too carried away with a fantasy storyline where what humans create backfire. You never really know, but I hope that when it comes down to everything, these MIT people program artificial intelligence in a way where it works for everyone and does it bite us in the butt.

Ride the wave! The google wave!

Talk about comparing the world wide web to an ocean where you can surf the different sites, google wave is going to make interaction within a Web 2.0 base so much easier efficient and allow a wider array of modes to do it with. Cloud computing can be done with google wave and the sharing abilities are limited, but I mean how much do people want to share anyway. If we try to share anything else would be transporting ourselves through computers and I think that kind of technology is way ahead of us still. To me it looks like it is compacting most of the things we already have into one more regulated form of programming. I think it's interesting but I have yet to see what it can really do and I am also looking forward to it. The more personal our internet lives are the more we find it easier to be efficient!

My phone is telling me where to go!

Personalized technology in my opinion is great! There is no other way to describe it, honestly everyone tells you how naked the feel without their phone and there is a reason why. Phones are making most of the things we used in our daily lives obsolete and us more efficient and of course more compact. I like that I can wander around with my planner, mp3 player, video game console and phone all in one. It gets rid of that unnecassary need to carry so much but allows you to do so much more. Well now, they have the Garmin Nuvi phone, interestingly enough it tells you where to go. Granted it's no Mp3 player, planner, and video game phone - it tells you were to go and incorporates voice commands. That to me is pretty special, I give it an A for awesome, but phones still can do that, I think what makes the Garmin phone superior is the voice qualities that other phones can't provide or have yet to provide.

Iam not a Mac and I am a PC, here's why

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5nHOWWDdpLo
So I was just watching a Mac commercial, which at first I thought was funny and smart. As the commercials changed and aired more often, I noticed they weren't as classy they started bashing windows and PCs with no real reason. I have used both and a Mac is definitely not that much superior and after asking one of my friends who I think is a computer genius, he said the best thing to go with is Linux, but only if you're good with code. It all depends on what your looking for in a computer, Windows, including Vista has consistently offered a user friendly interface that people around the world have grown accustomed to. In the latest Mac commercial, Mac points out that for decades Windows hasn't been able to supply consumers with decent software, we all know that's a lie. Only recently Macs have become more main stream and that's due to the ipod, without the positive press the ipod caused for apple, people wouldn't be using macs. Also, product placement is decieving just because you see Angelina Jolie using a mac doesn't mean the whole world is using them, too, infact the rest of the world is using Windows - probably because it's more affordable and people are used to it. Macs weren't good in the past and the fact that they said they were compared to the different Windows versions is a blatant lie trying to bash Windows 7, now the "I am a PC and I am Mac" commercials are cheap and come off as apple being threatend by what I think is a decent operating system. Mac should watch out, Windows doesn't need to point Macs flaws to prove it's the better operating system.

LIK OMG! WTF TTYL NFW LOL ROFL ROFL ROFL

English language where art thou? Hank Moody said it best when he said things, not words, like LOL and OMG...etc. are leading to the butchering of the english language. I can understand the need to abbreviate when you are texting on your phone, but when this flows into the conversations when we talk face to face that's when I have a problem. You are not paying per letter to talk to me, abbreviating won't do you any good and it only makes me think that I am talking to someone who lives and breathes texting. Now my problem extends to things like LOL, half the time when people use that "thing," for lack of a better word, I cringe a little, because I know you are not laughing out loud, it's not really adding to the conversation it's working as filler because the person had nothing better to say. So using these things don't do anything except give the person on the other side the wrong idea and at the same time, they already are a little blinded by the fact that they can't see when you're talking.

When will everything go digital? Is that a good thing?

So most people have definitely seen Terminator (all of them) and although fictional, I sometimes wonder if they are getting at something. I can see technology taking over the world, not neccassarily in the same way but to some extent it might end up hurting us. We have seen so many takes on artificial intelligence, but would that come with artificial emotion and if so that could go very wrong. Why would someone come up with an emotionally and intelligently inhanced piece of machinary? How can we stand to benefit from giving computers emotions? I just wonder how that will work for us, especially with everything becoming digitalized. It's like we have created a standard, soon there will be no need for postal addresses unless it's a delivery of some sort of large object. Will we even need to leave our homes? I can see how that will pose as a problem, the outside world will become obselete and we will become obese because they need to experience the outside world will be unneccesary especially when you can experience it from your couch.

Twitter and why it's useless

I understand the need for people to receive their information as soon as possible, but some information is frivolous and unneccessary and people feel that they need to post it to the rest of the world. In my opinion social networking sites are useful, but I wouldn't classify Twitter in this category, in fact it's a big waste of time. People feel the need to just post what they are doing constantly on twitter! Why? the answer is beyond me. Updating your life can be done along with a million other things on facebook, so why the need for another Web site to do that in even more detail. It really doesn't add anything to the daily life, or make things easier - other networking sites do, they get people back in contact, help with communication and many other things. Twitter doesn't provide people with anything they don't already have - it even give people the ability to follow others and creep on them too.
Twitter often serves as a worse distraction than social networking sites, people are constantly updating things from the last time they used the bathroom to posting a picture of the hot girl the saw on the beach. Really? Is this the direction we're going in with technology, because it says a lot about us when we care about items that have nothing to do with our daily lives or that won't help us. It's not funny, it's not worth it and people don't need it because they already have something that does that, among other things.

What should I say?

This is my first blog and I am not really sure what to say, so I think I'll talk about what I am going to be doing today. I hate Wednesdays almost as much as Mondays, just because I am stuck in the same old building all day from 9 to 3:30 and there is always more stuff I have to do right after. Today I have to help my video partner film her promo, also I don't get to eat until 8 - I am a sad sad person (sad face) wtf! I stopped typing for like 5 seconds and the thing saved by itself, what if i didn't want this to go up, what if I was bashing someone, now my words are somewhere in cyber space. OMG! it did it again! oh well! I guess I should start expecting crazy things like that to happen, speaking of crazy I just watched Inglorious Bastards, it was awesome especially the whole movie part.
Someone told me a couple of days ago that Perez Hilton, celebrity blogger, is a credible source - this of course after the scandalous web post thing he put up with a girl not wearing pants or something of the sort. But really? Perez Hilton? Credible? hahahahaha he's as a credible as my toe, the smallest piggy! No, but seriously? what made him famous was the load of crap he spews on the internet and celebrities went on the beat or join em trip so he wouldn't comment on them specifically so now he's Christina Aguilera's BFF, I thought she had a little more class, but I guess not. If your blogging about stuff in your life that's good for you, but a blog is not really the first place I would turn to if I wanted to find out about an earthquake and how many people died, so no, Perez Hilton is not a credible source for news, he tries to stretch his 15 minutes of fame by doing dumb ass things on the news but he's not a good source.
